Cleveland's North Coast Softball league is now a member of NAGAAA! What does this mean?
Cleveland is now eligible to send a team to the Gay Softball World Series (GSWS) that is in a different North American city each August!
This year, the GSWS begins on Tuesday, Aug. 14 and concludes on Saturday, Aug. 18. This is a five day tournament event! This means whoever goes (up to 18 players and 2 managers), will need to arrive on Monday, Aug. 13, and stay until at least Sunday, Aug. 19. The league is covering the team registration fee for 2012, so this team will need to fundraise for travel, hotel, etc. if they so choose.
We are required to send at least one team to the GSWS and for 2012, we are shooting for either a C or D division "all-star" team. This team can consist of players from any number of teams, but they all must have a NAGAAA rating appropriate for their division. To play in C in the GSWS, you must be rated at a 15 or lower. To play in D, you must be 11 or lower. Team ratings, which are calculated by totaling the ratings of the top-ten rated players on each team, must be at 145 or lower for C, and 105 or lower for D. To be eligible to play you must have a commissioner-approved NAGAAA rating. See this link and answer the questionnaire to get an idea of what your rating might be. Details on how you will receive your official rating are coming soon.
Whichever division shows the most interest early on is the division where we will focus putting a team together. Please have your managers contact Jason Buffa at commissioner@northcoastsoftball.org to let him know you are interested! If you are interested, also check out NAGAAA's Instruments of Governance, with an emphasis on the softball code section starting on page 17. This contains all the rules you will need to know for the tournament.
